A hardstone scarab with plain body, the underside carved with four hieroglyphic signs: a prominent crocodile (Sobek) in profile, with signs above for wife or consort, Ra and Maat.
Egyptian 2nd Intermediate period: Circa 1700-1550 BC.
Condition: Very Fine.
Length 20.6 mms (0.8 ins).
Provenance: From the Gustave Mustaki collection, a collector of antiquities who amassed large collection in Alexandria (Egypt) in the early 20th century and his collection came to the UK under Egyptian licence in 1947.
One possible interpretation: "Lord of Ra" (or "All belonging to Ra"), combined with Sobek, imagery (the god of fertility), to emphasizes divine authority, fertility, and protection. This scarab may have served as a charm for protection, strength, and fertility via Sobek.
