A Late Roman redware oil lamp, Hayes type I. The discus is decorated with a backward-looking ram, around which are grooved ridges; solid handle to rear. The lamp stands on a low ring base, the centre of which bears the inscribed makers mark SP.
Roman colonies of Northern Africa (Tunisia): Circa 375-450 AD.
Very Fine condition.
Length of lamp 11.8 cms (4.6 ins).
Provenance: Ex private collection H. L., Rhineland, since before 2000.
