A small, circular bronze medieval seal matrix with design on one side which shows a central rabbit, or hare, and a surrounding motto; SOHOV SOVT. The word 'sohou' in the legend is a French hunting cry, or meaning 'I ride', found on seals of this period, and was a hunting cry, the equivalent of the phrase 'Tally-ho' as used today so this fits with the hunting, hare coursing theme of the seal.
The reverse is plain, with a small suspension loop on towards the edge.
Supplied with a modern hard wax impression of the intaglio.
Circa 1350-1450 AD.
Very Fine condition with patina; the design just a little worn.
Diameter 18 mms (0.7 ins)
