A Cypro-Mycenaean bichrome-ware stirrup vessel, decorated with bands of red pigment to the shoulder and disc.
Late Bronze-Age Mycenaean: Late Bronze-age: Circa 1200-1000 BC.
Fine condition; complete and intact; the decoration quite faded.
Height 11.5 cms (4.5 ins).
Provenance: Ex Peter Cran collection, Scotland, who worked as an engineer for the Cypriot public works department 1931-1946; thence by descent. Acquired from Bonhams, London, 23 May 2012, no.6 (part).
Such vessels were manufactured to hold precious liquids, such as aromatic olive oil or perfume.
