A rare Ming Dynasty fahua table screen, supported on four short feet. The screen is finely moulded to one side in high relief with nine immortals, the central figure riding a crane, flanked by two bearded sages above the He-He twins (the Taoist Immortals of Harmony and Union, popularly associated with happy marriages), the rim with four further Daoist deities, the reverse with a floral motif, covered in splashed glazes of dark aubergine, turquoise, and amber colour.

 

Ming Dynasty China: 1368-1644 AD.

 

Condition: Good condition with some wear, small chips, minor losses, minor touch-ups to the glaze, one foot with an old repair.

Height 21.3 cms (8.4 ins)

 

Provenance: From an old private collection in Bavaria, Germany, assembled since the 1960s.
