A pleasing but simple Roman pale orange terracotta oil lamp. Lamp type Loeschcke Type VIII, mold-made, plain concave discus, with small, central filling hole, surrounded by a narrow band of lines and grooves. Shoulder is undecorated and slightly sloping outward. Heart-shaped nozzle. Incised base ring.

Circa: Early 2nd century AD.
Fine condition; complete and intact with light accretions.
Length 8.5 cms (3.3 ins).
Provenance: From the MCF collection, Switzerland, in family possession since before 1967.
