A moulded terracotta figure of a slave with grotesque facial features, pointed cap and a short tunic. He carries a pouch in his right hand and shoulders an overflowing fruit basket on his left. There is a large recess between his legs, probably for the insertion of an oversized phallus.

 

Romano-Egyptian: 1st century AD.

 

Very Fine; repaired at the knees.

Height 17.7 cms (7 ins)

 

Provenance: ex Gorny & Mosch auction 300, Munich 2023, lot 75; ex collection R. L., Lower Saxony. Acquired from Galerie Puhze, Freiburg, between 2002 and 2010.
